The next thing to do is to try and get my head around all the new equipment and livery of the warring clans. AW miniatures do a nice range, although slightly stylised they look good with lots of options for some good multiple bases.

Hi Iain I’ve just read quite a damming review of the AW miniatures figures by Meeples. My decision to wait a bit has paid off as I’ve had a bucket of cold water thrown over the idea. I liked the simplicity of the figures compared to really detailed figures from Perry’s etc. I have a couple of cheap eBay Osprey books on there way but I might have dodged a bullet there. Good series on Netflix nether the less.
My Samurai have been hot and cold too. That Netflix series has my recently resurrected Napoleonics in a nervous sweat!
But I've got a mix of Perry and Black Hat.
It would depend on what sort of Samurai gaming you'd like to aim for. Few of the AW figures seem prepared for war, but would be fine for spontaneous fights. There are plenty of other manufacturers of 28mm Samurai, more and less warlike, such as:

For Ronin I went for Dixon Miniature Samurai. Also, some armed and unarmed villager figures.

Lots of lovely pics, some I hadn't seen. My Samurai gaming project is just getting started - initial plan is to use 40mm figs - some from Steve Barber and the rest my own figures - a fair bit of sculpting to do.

As luck would have it I saw a documentary on Samurai women, specifically from Aizu, on the Smithsonian channel. The main character was Nakano Takeko.
They checked some battle sites and it was confirmed that 30% of the dead were women

I have a bucket load of some plastic wargames factory awaiting paint which are really not very good sculpts, at all....one day perhaps

I managed to stay strong and resist the temptation. The dragon sickness has past and I’m back to painting ECW. Bloody Netflix.
