My friend told me the story last night of the time he was barred from playing in a Games workshop shop because his figures were last seasons.
I have to say they do tend to update their ranges quite a bit, It's hard to keep up. Still the story still makes me laugh. They were the days...
Wow. That's a whole new level of nonsense. I'd never get a game in, in that case.
ReplyDeleteThe good old days, long gone and now cruel.
ReplyDeleteGW is digging its own grave, and it seems that everyone knows unless they themselves, despite the new material will be removed and to replace their old miniatures, which is really spectacular, but I prefer a box of the twins for 20 euros with 42 figures. And that I have an army of Orks but I left empty pockets with this terrible prices!!
ReplyDelete2 of the 3 local GWs in Manchester have closed last couple of months.
ReplyDeleteShame because i grew up with GW, but they only have themselves to blame.
I have not shopped in there for about a year unless i was desperate for paint
It was a while ago admitedly, but it did happen.
ReplyDeleteWith GW it really isn't like the good old days. In my opinion they peaked in the nineties and have been sliding ever since.
Have you heard the latest about their metal ranges being redone in Resin, and priced at 20% more?! Oh yes, that's not a joke, it's happening. How they expect to make a profit - or even survive -charging twenty pounds for a couple of figures, I don't know. But that is precisely what they are doing. Just when you think they can't get any worse...
Lovely figures, but their attitude sucks... :(
Its not exactly resin, is a new system, a rare material, with incredible details, but anyway i´ll just buy one or two miniatures but is too much expensive for me!!!
ReplyDeleteMy GW Space Wolves must be at least 15 years old. I guess I'm banned for life.
ReplyDeleteI'll not defend GW (also hate they prices) but they grew to be so large company that they have no choice but to follow some golden business market rules. That's why they keep releasing so often, no matter that I'm completly lost what is new, out of date, etc. Anyway ban in local store becouse of obsolte figures is pure nonsense. Some of my High Elves must be at least 20. I'm glad to keep them closed in the case - will not expose myself for public criticism.
ReplyDeleteJust like Steve I haven't bought a GW miniature in years and in fact I'm trying to sell off most of what I have.
ReplyDeleteYour cartoon(very funny btw) sounds a lot like what GW is doing of late and won't even let folks play their historical games(WAB) at their hall, because they don't have miniatures for it to further shine on their ludicrous choices.
Personally, I don't care if they decide to gold plate their miniatures as I don't buy em.;-)

Cruel but true...:(
ReplyDeleteI just put this story in my own blog:
http://descansodelescriba.blogspot.com/2011/05/cruel-gw.html
Greetings from Spain and congratulations, your blog is fantastic!!
I've eard this story about armies of 80's minies being banned/not allowed in GW shops and tournaments for years. I must say I've meet a lot of peoples who's friend's or who have "personnaly" experienced this situation... So many, that even if I think it may had happend a couple of time (with young "staf" members in face of old players), it's now just "another" urban legend )
ReplyDeleteCan historical figures be out of date too or is it just the stuff that hasn't happened yet? Nice site. Fab cartoons.
