Operation Beorn Again.

The great bear himself finally turns up... bloody late as usual.
After waiting a while for the second bear to arrive...the cutting and hacking could begin.
The plastic was very tough to get through with my craft saw. After what seems an age, the great heavy head fell off and the Orcs cheered. They soon stopped when they saw the angry head being wired into place.

I had to try a couple of different fur techniques, for this chunky, thick fur, I went for the classic GW wolf pelt look. This is the one where you cut lots of little triangles into the putty and push them up.
Beorn laughs at his new coat... Hopefully that's a good sign he likes it.
I did take the opportunity to bulk up his hump while applying the putty. I will also add some to his forelegs and make them a bit more shaggy.
It's all about patience with greenstuff, don't rush it and give the first stuff time to harden.

By the time he realized it was too late.

The funniest thing I've seen in weeks, this bought a tear to my eye.

Sorry, this never gets old.

The model I selected for Beorn looked great, he was big and furry, but didn't look fierce enough. I soon came up with a cunning plan to buy another toy I had seen and splice them together. Luckily the toys were the same scale and operation Beorn again was on.

Battle of the beasts.

Update: Beorn is now has thick fur to stop any orc blade. Hopefully when painted, he should look a bit more ragged and crazy.

He is now looking a look more the part...

The Axes of the Dwarves are opon you!

Another day of fixing some old broken minis. These included some beautiful old Dwarf sculpts.
While I had the green stuff out and mixed up, I thought I'd convert a few more Orcs to add to the legions.
This great resin figure of an old looking Dwarf gets a snap sack for his marching supplies.
Above is a great old Dwarf sculpt. I have two of these from eBay and both have lost their weapon heads. It must be a very weak spot. However, it's always a good feeling when you get to mend and even improve the original.
This huge axe is from a Copplestone medieval pack from Forlorn Hope. It has a great look now as it's such a beast.

These Asgard spears are very fragile and tend to bend and get damaged. This are lovely figures though and have loads of character. So it's nice to arm these heavily armoured Dwarves with hand weapons. The one above gets a mattock.
Another damaged Spearman gets an elegant axe. I do love the look of this fancy weapon.

The furnaces are lit and the sounds of hammers ringing echo through the house. New weapons are selected and beaten into shape for their new masters.

More crude greenstuff sculpting, these may not win any sculpting contests, but they do give me enthusiasm to paint them and that is a good thing.

Fur is always an easy go to on an Orc. It's also useful for using up that last little bit of putty you don't know what to do with.

Three broken Dwarves now battle ready again.

Green Stuff Day

I have a couple of units to finish for an update coming  Hobbit game. These new bases consist of a couple more Dwarf and man bases. Also a box of the new Oathmark heavy Orcs arrived.

I always like to add some sort of shoulder cover to these figures, be it a cloak or cowl. Orcs are great fun to do because their equipment can be really shoddy gear.
The Dwarves of the Iron hills and marched for days and so carry a lot of what they need on their backs. To really help with the look of the army I've added some bed rolls and packs to their backs. Using the skills I learnt on the Cybertron project, I used bits of plastic to add details.

Bed rolls and broomsticks.
Belt pouches and a small blanket roll.
Some heavy Orcs get some love with furs and leather cowls.

These new Orcs look good, the moulding seems to be more crisp than in earlier boxes.

A dragon standard gets a swirly tail, this will be of red hair.
It's been a long road to the Lonely mountain but these tough fighters are ready on a moments notice.
