Dark Age Irish Warband

This is me working out my warband for a Dark age campaign. I can't really get going on it until I have finished my Hobbit armies for an up coming show. So In the meantime time this sketch of the warband will have to do. Out of the hat I got the Black shield Irish.

The rules will be One hour wargames, and it's interesting to see the small size of the warband. Then again it is a skirmish game.

The Coppergate Helmet

Alanicus my old Roman rival has been up in York for the Viking festival this week. He sent me these lovely shots of the Coppergate Helmet. Soak up all that Dark age goodness.
It has a Christian blessing on it so is reckoned to be late 8th Century.

Notice the security guard who is posted next to it all the time.

Painting rusty Orc armour

I saw this trick while watching some other painters on You tube and thought it would be perfect for these Orcs. it is very simple to do and the results are great.
When the armour has been dry brushed and washed with a red brown, simply dab on some 'metal' coloured paint with a sponge. Like dry brushing make sure the sponge is not over loaded with paint and the effect is great for rusting metal. I might try the same technique for adding mud etc.

I had never tried this before and was pleased with the results, you're never too old to learn new tricks and watching You Tube for tips has become a pass time for me.
