Wolves at the Door

Focusing on the Fantasy side of things again. My army of Wolves for the Five Armies project is nearly done. The figures were very easy to paint, fur being dry brush heaven. Now I'm faced with the not so fun prospect of basing them all.

Note to self...just base them a few at a time to keep the process fun and not rushed. Put the entire army out of sight and only pull out the ones you are working on. Don't look behind you. Don't run or show weakness. Take food basket to Grandma's.

The pikeman's lament

The news of the new osprey release 'The Pikeman's lament' has almost pulled me away from my Fantasy project.
My head has been filled with new basing ideas and the thought of finishing units that have hidden in boxes for three years. Think of It...small units means you can paint forces quickly... I must stay on target...Time to listen to the Hobbit again and wash away the pike and shot temptation.
Although I love the idea of the new rules, they are designed to be a skirmish set. This is of course perfect for playing the English Civil War with countless minor skirmishes going on all over the place. Although, I do still love the idea of fielding big units for ECW that use four standards, as I think the look of multiple fluttering banners really sums up the period.
Above is some mussing on the basing subject. It may be a case that I stick to my usual 4 to a base for the new osprey game, this would work equally as well but maybe not look as good. The cavalry and Dragoon basing for the new rules looks very effective, so that may tempt me.

The Bloody Siege of Bristol.

Royalist troops inch their way up the redoubts in Bristol, the Cities second row of defences. The cost would be high, but the day theirs...

ECW Characters

A member of the Royalist Northern Horse. He carries imported equipment from the continent (C.1664).
A Royalist officer enjoys the finer things in life while his men drill in the rain.
A parliamentarian Preacher brings down hell fire and damnation on the King and his supporters.

A troll on the wild side

Found this today hidden at the back of an old sketch book. Made me smile so I thought I'd put it on the blog.

It must be about two years old at least, so that goes to show how long I've been on this fantasy project. Still enjoying it though so here's to many more years to come. I've almost been tempted by other eras but so far the fantasy vibe has still got me, it's pure food for my imagination, I'm loving It.

A Rampant Dragon!

Glaurung is based and ready to plunder the halls of men...and Dwarves come to that. He was renown for transfixing his victims with a look from his burning eyes. My Glaurung certainly looks the part with his glowing stare.
