ECW Cart from War Bases

Heres a nice little cart from War bases. It's a another nice little bit of scenery for the ECW period.
I thought I'd make a piece of removable baggage out of stones and waste MDF.
Once covered with a wet wipe, the baggage was then given a wash of watered down PVA. A nice little side project that is a change from painting.

This cart will also be useful for fantasy and most eras I game.

I dug out some other carts that have been hanging around for years. It's good to do them all at once, I might even paint up some horses.
The canvas bundle was given a xenithol highlight.

The models were dry brushed with light grey and white, then given a brown wash. The washes were created using GW Contrast paints.

The finishing touches were a layer of mud on the wheels and some straw. I added a little light brown to the mud to create a highlight, this worked well.
These carts have been dragged around on campaign in the English countryside.

Update; So I ordered some barrels and crates to finish off these carts. I decided they looked a bit better than my covered version. I might stick these to small bases so they can be taken out too. Might create some more options.

Basing day for the Horse

Roundhead horse plough their way across the muddy field towards the enemy.

The Royalist officer orders a charge, hopefully there are no rabbit warrens around.
The storm clouds break...

Parliamentarian trotters advance in an orderly formation, knee to knee.

Update: Here are the finished regiments of Horse.
Gallopers pursue a unit of trotters.

Above are the two new Royalist regiments, rebased and flocked, ready for action.

Together, the random placing of galloping troopers looks good and definitely gives the impression of a charging regiment.
I do like my Royalists in helmets and buff coats, I must say.

Dismounted ECW Troopers

Recently, I have been toying with the idea of a dismounted trooper unit for Victory without Quarter. I've always loved the lobster pot helmet and the beautiful figures from Bloody miniatures sealed the deal for me.
I love the fact a Foundry figure fits into the line up with a height boost. The large head of the early Foundry figures matches perfectly.
To finish the look off, I worked out some horse bases too. These will be to the rear out of the way. The horse holders are made from old Essex and Foundry figures. The mounted trooper is from Bicorne miniatures.
This Foundry trooper makes for a great horse holder now his sword is cut away.

A lovely selection of Bloody miniatures.
The smaller figures are raised up on MDF to bring them to the same height as the newer sculpts.

A little sketch of a confused trooper.

Manor house walls

I'm putting together bits and pieces for the ECW project, with this in mind I bought some nice walls.I thought these could be used for various manor houses and the like.

I decided to use up some old plasticard for the bases. This is tricky stuff compared to card but it should be tougher.

I maybe should of got another set but I'm trying to keep the spending down and this lot was about £22 off eBay. I could always get some more if needed.

At least I can always trace around the bases now to speed up the basing process.

A broken wall gets some extra stones to finish the effect.

I angled the edges to create a slight slope to the base.
The walls aren't too high, just tall enough to make an attacker think twice.

Here are some reference shots I took while walking. The grey effect looks great for a really old wall.

A bit of flock changes everything up. Just some tufts to add now when the flock is dry.

I placed some tufts along the outside of the walls.
