Barns in Space

Here is my latest building for the ACW games. It also fits in well for the Weird World War project too funny enough.

The two Cybertronic towers are also completed in the background. They have had some of their wash rubbed off with a damp rag leaving a weathered look.

At first I thought you could buy hay bails to go inside this model, but on second look this doesn't seem to be the case.

I think the model with the sculpted interior was the first version of this barn. It appears to me that they remodeled it by cutting out the windows and door to save resin. It also makes the building a little more interactive being hollow. Signs of this first version can be seen around the door where a base has been cut away.

So, with the hay bails now a thing of history, I thought I would hint at the interior by adding some hay of my own. This was done by adding 4mm static grass (hay).

I gave the model a good coat of Matt varnish to seal the paint and lock the static hay in place.

A large gap in the barn was given some static hay to make it look like the barn is full.

I also added some hay around the doors to help tell a story.

Hay on the ledge and barn doors look good too and look better the the original sculpted resin model.

 Looks like Aliens have landed in the Midwest.

The original model with its sculpted bails and grass based. Interestingly, the model is still shown like this on the website, it's a little confusing when the actual piece arrives.

There's something very familiar with this resin barn...I just can't put my finger on it.

Basing Day

The Iron Brigade show off their new smaller bases.

Even some Rebs got in on the act. These bases must have slipped through the basing day net a year ago.

A detailed shirt easily done using coloured permanent markers.

I do like these Irish standards for the south. They should make the unit really stand out on the board.

Now the Iron Brigade sport their normal sized bases, they seamlessly fit in with the rest of the army. 

There they are right in the corner.

Rebasing Again

A little while ago I made the fateful decision to base my Iron Brigade on larger bases, this was due to the 1st Corps figures and their weapon positions. An extra 10mm was added to the base depth.

However, this on second thoughts wasn't the best idea as it may lead to complications over movement etc. so after a day or so thinking about it I decided to jump in and rebased them. It turns out the large rifles and bayonets can be based with a little careful placing.

All is well again in the universe, the Iron Brigade can now go toe to toe with the Rebs without any movement issues. I have around eight bases of finished figures that will need the same procedure. 

It made total sense to rebase these figures before they were finished to save on any damage being done to the paint work. I also found a handy curved dentist tool which made removing the glued figures a dream. 

Rebasing is a wargamers curse.

The really good thing about revisiting these old figures again that have sat gathering dust for over a year, maybe two...is at least I may finish them now.

 The curved tool acts as a lever to pry the figures off their old bases.

Update, I've dug out the rest of the regiment and rebased them too. These were much more of a challenge with their flocked bases, so I'm glad I bit the bullet early on with the others.

It was a pain rebasing the finished unit but it was a chore worth doing...
