Rebasing Again

A little while ago I made the fateful decision to base my Iron Brigade on larger bases, this was due to the 1st Corps figures and their weapon positions. An extra 10mm was added to the base depth.
However, this on second thoughts wasn't the best idea as it may lead to complications over movement etc. so after a day or so thinking about it I decided to jump in and rebased them. It turns out the large rifles and bayonets can be based with a little careful placing.
All is well again in the universe, the Iron Brigade can now go toe to toe with the Rebs without any movement issues. I have around eight bases of finished figures that will need the same procedure.
It made total sense to rebase these figures before they were finished to save on any damage being done to the paint work. I also found a handy curved dentist tool which made removing the glued figures a dream.
Rebasing is a wargamers curse.

The really good thing about revisiting these old figures again that have sat gathering dust for over a year, maybe two...is at least I may finish them now.

The curved tool acts as a lever to pry the figures off their old bases.

Update, I've dug out the rest of the regiment and rebased them too. These were much more of a challenge with their flocked bases, so I'm glad I bit the bullet early on with the others.

It was a pain rebasing the finished unit but it was a chore worth doing...

AT-TE 15mm

I'm really excited for these walkers. Having ordered them from eBay I wasn't quite sure how big they'd be. Well, they arrived today and I was very pleased to see that they are big and chunky beasts.

Spread the love!
I'm also loving the extra detailing that these resin prints have. The toys were very good but it looks like they had to sacrifice authanticy over playability. On the toy the cockpit has to open, so the upper ball turrets were spaced out. The printed walker doesn't suffer from that.
I have to say, I'm loving the new chunky designs of the cockpits with their extra detailing.

It's clear to see the toys are slightly bigger but nothing too drastic, the customised burnt out wreck will fit perfectly with the newer versions. I think the toys are probably 20mm in scale.

The legs are going to be a bit tricky to do as each segment is separated. I may have to find a tacky glue to use as I position them on a movement base.

I think the slightly wider cockpit is a little more accurate too judging by this shot from the Bad Batch.

These armour markings are clearly shown on this Revell model kit, these are really handy for a painting guide.

Droid Speeders

I've discovered a brilliant technique for painting B1 battle droids using Skeleton Horde contrast paint. Simply watered down slightly and wash over white, the results are spot on. This new discovery has led to B1 factories starting up again and the droid production line has begun in earnest. These little figures are a joy to paint as I keep saying because most of them are so simple to do.
These 'STAP' speeders were easy too once I had cross referenced the colours from a source book. They did come on blocky, printed bases but I had the idea of mounting them on transparent brush bristles. This worked well, as I could make them fly a lot higher and adjust the flying height too with different lengths of bristle.

Simple little paint jobs but effective.

The stones add character to the base and give it some extra weight and stability. They also help to secure the bristles.

The skeleton horde contrast technique works really well, any touch ups can be done with iraqi sand from Vajello.

Clone Heavy Repeater 15mm

These scratch built heavy repeaters should address the balance against the endless waves of droids.
I've decided to keep the clones in their basic colour scheme and not go for one of the colourful legions. In a way I think they are more striking in their white armour.

This is probably an early version of a type of E-Web repeating blaster.
The armour was given a coat of gloss varnish to make it shine. The gloves and blaster were Matt varnished. I gave the gun a bit of bronze colour to make it pop.

New Royalist Cavalry Squadron

The unit is now complete. I'm really liking the new buff clad troopers, much less 'fuss and feathers' of the others.
The figures in the unit are Dixon, Redoubt and Foundry.
Plastic horses from warlord games and Wargames Atlantic, they both work well together.

Just one broad brimmed hat, not too many.

The Royalist cavalry so far, three squadrons of cavaliers.

I like the Foundry figure here in amongst the others, mounted on a bigger horse he fits in just fine.

A more staggered formation should hopefully make them look like they've moving at speed.

Update: All based now with the cornet ammended too.
The basing is three layers of flock then mud added with a brush. The mud effect is 'Thick mud' from Vallejo.
