Happy Dayz

well what a day, not one but two great fantasy deliverys today. The first was the fantastic orcs/goblins from Colin Pattern. These have caused quite a stir on line as they are perfect for Tolkien orcs.
There are about five sets of these Goblins from Ragnarok, however, the best for Orcs are these armoured ones.

The second parcel was the long awaited Wood Elves from Black Tree Design. I ordered these a long time ago, however the owner of the company has been very ill. I thought the best bet was just to wait and today they turned up, I was not disappointed.
These are the figures I based my own Elf sculpting on by trying to copy the apron style armour and designs. I know a lot of the Tolkien purists will not like the film influenced glaives, but they will do for a unit of elite guard.

They have lovely detail and are definitely Wood Elves with lots of leafy goodness and scale mail.

These guys with the big swords are the Royal guard but I also bought a few archers too. They will make a nice elite unit of Line breakers for Oathmark.

Lovely detail on these figures.
One of the sets I ordered was the Elf king and his court. I just love this set as it is full of Tolkien goodness. I already had a good king figure picked out but this king set comes with lovely little extras.

The actual Elf king is great, but he looks more like he is in his palace than on a battlefield. I may have to use the other war like one from Reaper Miniatures.

Creating Crude Orc Helmets

No one seems to create orc figures with covered helmets, so I thought I'd have a go at making some  Orc Smith's aren't the best in the world so I kept them crude and basic.

More Elves get some more Wood Elf touches. This one has an High Elf helmet from GW, I added some leaf detailing to make him look a bit more Silvan.

Goblin helmets, they remind me of the ones from the film, laberenith.

These were quite easy to make with a blade tool.

More armour is added to this Elf lord.

Orc Assualt Column

Here are the first bases of my Assualt orcs. These were inspired by the Hobbit movie and I will use these to attack Bard and his Lakemen.
Archers rain arrows down as the pikes advance, adding to the confusion and helping in breaking up formations.
I have put six spearmen onto a base with a seventh archer crammed on to fill out the numbers. Pike armed bases always look better with a couple of extra guys packed in.

A lot of these orcs are wearing stolen Dwarf armour from the old armouries of Mt Gundabad. This will upset more than a few bearded folk and probably drive them to madness.
This has been done by using lots of left over Dwarf torsos from the Oathmark box sets.

Special weapons have been constructed to help break those cursed shield walls.

Green Eggs and Ham.

For breakfast today I mixed up another batch of delicious green stuff, to finally finish off all those little odds and ends.
These included a couple of extra Elves that had turned up to the party late and a few new Goblin archers.

I thought I would try a couple of archers reaching for another arrow just for some variation.

I rolled one of the putty tools in the green stuff to get a mesh type pattern. The results can be seen above on the archer.

Gildor finally arrives from Northstar to take charge of another Wing of Elf spearmen. I was looking through my collection for a good leader figure, then remembered the Wood elf king from the Oathmark metals. He'll do for Gildor I thought.

I plan for the Gildor companies to be a little more war like in appearance than those of Lindir, with different armour etc.

His rather glamorous banner is from a Fire Forge Northman plastic box set. I used the same one for Bard but made sure to replace the staff with a metal one after the last one snapped very easily.

Goblin bows

Another batch of greasy skinned Goblins gets a brush with Army Painter Dark tone.

I found my can had set solid and I had to dig around with a screw driver to reach the good stuff. It was still very thick so I added some terps to it and it seemed to brush on fine. I quickly packed it away before my wife caught drift of the smell.

I don't mind using the stain on these orcs as it helps to darken them all down and make them look very drab.

These are part of an Orc attack column which are armed with spears. After a bit of thought I wanted some missile troops to sprinkle in amongst them.

I find that this Dark tone drys in half the time as the others, so these could be up and running tomorrow.

I felt good about making up these extra archers because most of them are made from the unused spider rider torsos and legs. I simply stuck the legs on a piece of plastic and there you go, you have another foot soldier. These plastic Goblins are from the Wargames Atlantic box set with green stuff details added.
I hate seeing bits go to waste so these archers helped me squeeze the most out of the box set.
