The Seventh get their spurs

Custer gets a hat! I thought it would be only right to give him his iconic big beige hat as the figure is not sculpted with one.

I found a suitable candidate from the Perry ACW plastic box set, although 28mm it seemed to fit the over large hat of Custer.

 

I’ve finally booked time in for another massive basing session. This time I started small and caught up with little 20mm chaps from Newline Design. Based for The Men who would be Kings, each group of eight represent a company.

I started off using green grass but after a bit of thought started to add a lot of yellow dry looking colours. This looked a lot better and seem to capture the feel of the area better. 4mm tufts we’re also added for variety.

This in my mind is Reno, I created a pistol for him using superglue and a piece of plastic rod.

Three and a half companies line up after getting their Greasy grass.

Being a smaller range than normal this 2mm grass works well, especially when combined with longer tufts.

A lone trooper doesn’t stand much chance of escape.

The base was created using Arid grassland from Luke’s APS.

There’s lots of fantastic artwork about the famous battle and I used these as reference for the terrain. Yellow, dry grass is the order of the day with patches of green.

This stuff worked a treat for the dry grass.
