Elven Kite Shields

This morning I had a brain wave, why not tweak the actual shields as well as the torsos. The Norman shields already looked great for Elvish forces but lacked the woodland flare. 

So I clipped off the boss with some cutters and made it flat, then added blobs of putty and shaped them into leaf designs 

Quite happy with this idea as now it means the whole force can have a forest theme to them.

These would look nice painted in silver on a green shield. They are all unique to reflect the loose nature of the Wood Elf host, this also will add lots of variation in the shield wall.

 UPDATE: A few more warriors have joined the host.

I've also been hunting out good metal miniatures and swooping out their heroic weapons for plastic ones. They fit in much better now and it's nice to use some great sculpts in the mix.

Here you can see the Scibor Elf shield amongst the new ones. I think it fits in well, most of the army will have these.

Up to date, now all of the Norman shields have been tweaked.

I decided to go back and get more of the old sculpts out of the box and add leaves to them. Now nearly all of the army will have leafy tokens of one shape or another.

A Vitrix plastic Norman works a treat with a Oathmark Elf head.

I love the scale mail on this Elf from Black Tree Design. It was this figure that made me think about swooping the weapons, it would be a shame not to include such beautiful armour. A new Oathmark plastic sword and some leafy magic and he's ready to join the ranks. Maybe I could add a plastic feather too...

The Elf Light Infantry box from Oathmark is great value for kit bashing. It doesn't have any spears but the space is taken up by more heads. So it has a whopping 15 heads on every sprue. This is very useful when you buy other plastic Dark Age kits. You can field a lot of Elves with that one box.
